New Toilet Cleans Itself

Self-cleaning toilet push button

Don't Bother to Clean This Toilet, It'll Clean Itself.

Okay, self-cleaning devices for toilets have been around for a while, but, to my knowledge, they are all after-market add-ons that are unsightly and, often, marginally effective. This new toilet from American Standard, called ActiClean, features Self-cleaning toilet animation a fully integrated self-cleaning system.

A disposable cleaning cartridge is hidden in the tank lid. A flip-up door on the tank top houses the control panel, which is activated by the push of a button. The cleaning concentrate travels from the cartridge, through a designated channel in the tank and is mixed with water. High-velocity jets release the cleaning solution into the bowl creating a scouring action.

The cleaner then soaks in the bowl. The ActiClean offers a quick clean cycle that takes one minute; or a deep clean alternative that offers an extended, 10-minute cycle. When the soaking time has ended, the system will automatically siphon the cleaning agent and rinse the bowl with clear water.

For homes with small children, the cleaning function can be locked and the cleaning cycle can even be canceled mid-cycle if needed.
