You know, most people keep their gutters out of their minds, I mean after all they are way up there, it’s sort of easy to sort of forget about them. But if you do, and they collect debris, well that can cause you some really big problems but keeping them clean is not really that difficult. Let me give you a couple of tips.
Now the first thing you want to do when you get up here is take out the big stuff, the twigs and the dried leaves, Idon’t mind using my hands for this, but down below all that is some pretty ooky stuff. Look at it, it’s kind of like mud, decomposed material. For that, I fashioned a scoop out of a half gallon milk container, and just fit it right in here like this, slide it along the bottom of the gutter and with minimal use of my hands, I can get that stuff completely out of there.
Be sure and check your down spouts drainer, and if it’s dirty, like this one is, clean it out. And if you don’t have one of these, this would be a good time to install one. Now to get this to operate properly, they not only have to be clean, but they have to be sloped this way toward the downspout. You can make a quick check with a level and remember you don’t want them level. You want them sloped. You know, with a little bit of maintenance, your gutters will give you years of trouble free service.
